Urban Wolves
Tanzstück zu Musik von Sandrow M
Cities shape the people who inhabit them by setting directions and paths, establishing borders and forming obstacles, which makes them appear foreign and repellent. The performers in Yaron Shamir’s dance evening confront this feeling of foreignness with speed, precision and power, creating a breathtaking dance. The urban wolves are roaming their habitat in a fashion that is raw and bleak, yet graceful.
Israeli-born choreographer Yaron Shamir’s language of movement demands a strong physical presence and the interplay of fast movements and quiet moments. Urban wolves are to become his dancers, moving in a space as if it were their natural environment. It isn’t questioned who is the hunter or the hunted, but rather the feeling of sovereignty.
‘As an urban hunter, you develop skill. You are faster and stronger, but the most valuable skill is the ability to lead others where you want them to go. This allows you to win on your own playing field without having to be the strongest. You have to be as cunning as a wolf and be on the edge of cruelty…’
Together with the dancers of Ballett Graz, Yaron Shamir continues to develop an evening created in 2019 in collaboration with the Theater in der Tonne Reutlingen, giving it a new form.
Please note that strobe lighting will be used during the performances!
