Opening concert: “Dreams!”
Strauss | Wagner | SchubertInsatiable desire! The relationship between Octavian and the Marchioness in Richard Strauss’ Rosenkavalier (The knight of the rose) remains as unfulfilled as the one between Richard Wagner and Mathilde Wesendonck. This insatiable desire inspired Wagner to Tristan and Isolde, and his Wesendonck Lieder anticipate motifs from the opera. The exceptional singer Annette Dasch, who has been celebrated by Wagner enthusiasts ever since her Bayreuth debut as Elsa, interprets the songs orchestrated by Wagner’s disciple Felix Mottl for large orchestra. In the second part of the concert, Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 in B minor is sure to leave the audience fulfilled despite or perhaps even because of its incompleteness.
