A ballet evening in two parts
On a July day in 1518, a woman began to dance through the streets of Strasbourg. She danced for days and days. Soon the dance fever spread to several hundred people. But where does the power of collective hysteria that can so easily take hold of us come from? What compels us to join in this phenomenon that seems utterly absurd from a distance?
Following her acclaimed production Vom Verschwinden der Körper (On the disappearance of bodies) in the 23/24 season, choreographer Maura Morales returns to Graz, exploring the evocative effect of ecstasy and dance. On our main auditorium’s stage the dancers of Ballett Graz inspire with their powerful, sensual body language once again to the driving, rhythmic and almost hypnotic sounds of Michio Woirgardt.
Since 2019, choreographers Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich have been leading their company Metamorphosis Dance in Madrid, with which they have performed at festivals all across Europe. They work together as guest choreographers for Ballett Basel, Aterballetto in Italy and the Royal Ballet Birmingham, among others. This will be the first time that an energetic and furious work by the duo will be staged in Austria.
