Special concert: “Myth!”
A resounding longing! Two mythical lovers are in the centre of a concert characterised by impressionist musical magic. Maurice Maeterlinck’s symbolist drama about the forbidden love between Pelléas and Mélisande inspired not only Claude Debussy but also Maurice Ravel’s teacher Gabriel Fauré. While the fate of Pelléas et Mélisande concludes in their tragic death, the love of the two foundlings Daphnis and Chloé finds a happy end after all kinds of entanglements. In the tale of the naiad Syrinx, on the other hand, unfulfilled love turns into music. The god Pan uses the reed into which the naiad was transformed to build an instrument with which he is able to express his longing through sound.
